Where has Suzie been?

Getting ready
My husband gearing up to take on the deck

Not to worry, I am alive. I have either just been totally uninspired or too busy to write. We have had the CRAPPIEST weather possible during our holiday so we have been going out to the movies a lot. Thankfully the sun FINALLY came out yesterday and the time to work on our deck was finally here.

Last year on our "holiday" we painted on our shutters. It took us days! This year it's the deck. We thought that there was very little stain left on it, man, were we ever wrong! I tried to find someone to do this for us but nobody would return my phone calls, as usual. We even went to Home Depot to talk to a contractor who was never there. Finding anyone to hire to do anything here is next to impossible.

I will write about the deck odyssey next week once our holiday is over. At the moment it has been stripped and is now drying out:

The deck ready to be stained

Look at the colour difference! From a grey mildewy gross colour to this lightly golden yellow. The work involved though? OMG! Unbelievable. Wait until you see next week.

Next we have to stain it ourselves. Wish us luck OK? We are not do-it-yourself-ers in any way shape or form which explains why this has been taking up our entire vacation. Well, the sunny side of our vacation. I hope we manage to squeeze in a little fun and relaxation in the last couple of days too.

As we were scraping off all the crap and goo, I swear, I could hear the house breathe a sigh of relief. As much as I do not like doing this kind of work, it does help you connect to your home. And I do love my house very much.

I'm impressed! I can't wait to see the finished product!

(You'll have to tell me how to personalize my blog. I can design everything, but can't figure out how to implement it on the blog to save my life.)

Best of luck on the porch DIY project! I find it very empowering to tackle home & garden projects myself. Can't wait to see the after pics. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog, Suzie. Your comments did help. When the Grand Cross Cleaning Tear 2010 goes on its merry way, perhaps I'll personalize my blog more!

Showing love to my house always give me a lift. I've been doing small painting jobs this past week. Also, we are getting to the half way mark in our birth year. I think we kind of dip in energy then get reved up again when the moon in Aquarius happens which is a week from Saturday.

The deck is looking fabulous already, can't wait to see the end result. Yes it is a lot of work, but there is a real sense of accomplishment when you do it yourself, hiring someone just isn't the same, they don't put that extra love and detail into it that the homeowner does.

As much as I want you to enjoy your vacation together, just know that you are missed in my foodie world, it's strange not to see daily postings on your blog. See you've spoiled us all LOL...Hope the weather shapes up for you and you get some time to relax and do some fun stuff too. Another day at the beach perhaps?
