The day that never happened and I need your help!

Strawberry growing on front deck

For those who know about flowers and wood, please scroll down to the HELP ME! section, I really need your help.

Yesterday was a disaster. I was supposed to have a nice leisurely day celebrating Lammas and making jewellery and none of that happened. Instead I used up the last of my energy desperately trying to figure out how to get rid of the fishy smell in my new deep freeze and ended up inadvertently sniffing so much of the bleach I used to sterilize it (after using vinegar, then a baking soda scrub) I got a migraine. Only to find out that I had to have to the lid open with the engine running for the stench to exit the freezer. This was at 9 o'clock last night.

However I did manage to make Paula Deen's Mexican Cornbread so that's something. But I am just not strong enough or inspired to make a vitality necklace. What a shame, my friend is super sweet and I feel like I let her down. I just can't give what I don't have.

Strawberry growing on front deck

But you know what I do have? Strawberries growing on my deck in containers! And they're looking wonderful. It wasn't until I started growing them myself that I realized that berries come from flowers? That transition was completely new and magical to me. I know die-hard gardeners will roll their eyes and say, of course! But I didn't know! Once their season is over I will plant them with my other strawberry plants and have even more next year.

Peppers on my deck

And that little white flower is from my pepper plant! I was giving up on them, didn't think they were going to come but here they are, soaking up the summer sun. I planted mild and hot ones, covering all bases.

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

What are these?

I have these fantastic magical five-pointed star white flowers at the front of my house and I have no idea what they are. They are so tall this year, loving the unusually powerful sunshine we are getting this year. Do you know what they are?

Help? What should I do?!!

I really need help with this one. We bought these fantastic Muskoka chairs last year and they handled last summer and the winter fine but now they are greying, what do I do???!!!

I promised myself that today I would rest and I am going to do it. No walks, no phone calls, no yoga even, no cleaning (that will be the hardest one for me)... I am going to rest, read and cook. I have to eat!

Maybe one day my creative energy will come back. I will try and commune with the strong and healthy energy of my garden that is just thriving around me and rest. Drink it all in.

I hope you had a fabulous Lammas yesterday! Or Imbolc if you're south of me. Hope there was a lot of feasting and harvesting going on.

For the chair, try pressure washing it. You'll be amazed at how clean it will be afterwards and then seal it with polyurethene to keep it from happening again (and it will protect it from rotting). Hope this helps!

Lovely flowers! Don't know what they are but hopefully someone else will be able to identify it. :)

I agree with Tracy about the chair. Try pressure washing it, then sealing it the same way you did the deck. It should help.

I think the flower may be a type of Luna flower. I noticed them growing lakeside on one of my walks and a friend had some in pots at her door. I thought yours looked like that (with some variation; our variety has deep pink in the center) but when I Googled "Luna Flower," this image came up: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://image14.webshots.com/15/9/74/84/172597484CmXZPW_fs.jpg&imgrefurl=http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/photo/1172597484012780717CmXZPW&usg=__76-lhrZYeYrU4OFIYyMLzQRA66s=&h=1800&w=2400&sz=224&hl=en&start=25&sig2=FcLYWOXFGAQa3WEtX3b0eg&tbnid=oXZgvVSXHFWIGM:&tbnh=112&tbnw=150&ei=P-BWTI_CF8L6nAehovyTAw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dluna%2Bflower%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D840%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&page=2&ndsp=27&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:25&tx=85&ty=46

(Sorry for huge link.)

They're "perennial annuals"; sometimes, they will come back. It looks like someone who lived there before you may have planted some.

I don't have a pressure washer but that's an interesting idea. I'm wondering if bleach would work? Hmm, that might be too tough on wood. Once I get rid of the dark colouring I will definitely treat it again.

Interesting suggestion and link Linnea, LOL, but I think Sandy on FB figured it out, they look like white balloon flowers, what a cool name and totally describes them perfectly!

Your strawberries look so precious! And what a magical discovery that they go from blooms to berries. And balloon flowers are wonderful! What a treat! I love watching your garden grow!

Sorry, I've got no suggestions for the Muskoka chairs

The flowers and strawberries are gorgeous. As for the chair, I don't know, but if you speak to someone at Home Depot (or similar store), I'm sure they could direct you on how to revive it. I would hold off on the bleach though, it would be a bit harsh I think. You could probably even rent a pressure washer from Home Depot, if that's the route you want to go. You'd be surprised at the selection of stuff you can rent, no need to invest in one.
