The Happy Book

The Happy Book Witch
Me and Little Witch went to see The Last Exorcism together

This week for The Happy Book we were supposed to take a little friend with us on our little journeys. I had no idea just how profound choosing a little witch (that was a gift from Jamie, LOL) was going to be.

Women who are strong and opinionated, who stand up for what they believe in, are often called witches. If you are tough and complain about something, there is a good chance you will be criticized for it.

The Happy Book Witch
Little witch wonders at this tiny apple that for her was huge!

In the name of professionalism, I will not go into details but for the first time in my life I "got into trouble" for writing letters of complaint. I am not made out of stone. Of course it upsets me but not speaking my truth in order to make others happy damages my spirit even more.

The Happy Book Witch
Little witch took time to hang out with the pretty flowers

I have always connected with the icon of witches for many reasons but lately demonizing women for not being nice, stepping over the line, not keeping our mouths shut makes me connect to this symbol even more.

The Happy Book Witch
We even hung out in the witchy section of the library to get out of the heat!

Women who speak their truth and share stories and "cause trouble" should be celebrated. There is so much social pressure to "be nice" so people will not get angry at us but I just don't care anymore. I am so alone here in so many ways, fine, hate me. Be mad at me. I would rather be attacked for speaking my truth than seething inside for pretending everything is OK.

I won't shut up. I will write and complain when I have a grievance. The power of change dies when we keep our words inside. I will not be nice. I embrace the power of the witch with all its warts and dangers.

Witches are powerful. They are the harbingers of truth. They change reality. They lance the wound and bring true healing. They are hated because they are feared. They are larger than most people's lives. Truth-speakers, secret-keepers... I love witches with all my heart.

This witch is going to be storm watching tomorrow. Hurricane Earl is weakening but should make for an interesting story. I will be blogging about it tomorrow with lots of updates. Hopefully it won't be too bad and my electricity stays on. This is the closest to Suzie TV as my blog will get. I hope you keep me company while this sky witch braces for yet another storm.

Suzie, seriously, those photos are the CUTEST!!! I'm so glad that little witch was your companion and what a profound symbol she has turned out to be!

I for one am glad that you will never shut up and will be keeping you company as you face the storm. After all, that's what sisters are for.

big hugs and lots of love,
Jamie

One of the things I liked best about my daughter's preschool (where we shared 3 glorious years)was their ABC poster. It was full of alternatives to the usual "A is for apple" and on it, "W was for witch." The image that accompanied "W" was of a beautiful, dark-haired woman with kind eyes and an open smile.

Here's to white witches, speaking our minds, sharing our strength, and happiness.

This post makes my heart rise up and shout, "Yes!" Yes to speaking our truths. Yes to not shutting up. Yes to being strong women!

Please never shut up, never bottle up your truth. You may be alone where you are, but there are lots of us out here in the wider world who have your back, and we're here to boost you up if you need it.

I love your little witch -- literally and figuratively. Never stop speaking your truth.

Thanks for this post. I needed it today. Now go batten down the hatches as necessary and stay safe!

Loved the composition of all the photographs. Your point of view, zooming in and playing with angles is really cool. And the light in the first one is fantastic!

Only by speaking up (on both what is wrong and what is right) can we make this world a better place. :)

if you did not speak your mind - I would think something is wrong with you....keep speaking the truth - because your word is all you have - it is all anyone has--love the little travels of your little icon - too cute!!!
take care of you and do not worry about the storm - it has weakened incredibly and at the most you will get wind and rain without the insanity!!!

Oh yeah--I totally agree with this post. Believe me, I have plenty of trouble in my life for being honest and telling the truth. I have found that most people do not like the truth and want to be lied to for their own selfish reasons. When it comes to relationships honesty is the best policy. How can one truly trust another if there is a lack of trust and trust my friend is most important. I have been ridiculed, made fun of, told I was the devil and so much more for my witchy ways. But then again, like I've told people. If you don't want the truth, don't ask me. Simple as that.

BTW--love the little witchy doll. How was the movie? I really want to go see it and have been getting some mixed reviews, from teenagers. Blessed Be my witchy friend. Angie I think I'm just misunderstood...LOL

Argg, I am always getting in trouble at work for speaking up and questioning the status quo. But I don't care! Sounds like you don't either. Loved your witchy pics!

Truth should never be shut up. Witches united! ;)

Seriously now. I come from a family where women have a strong voice in all senses, so I grew up speaking up. It's all a matter of how saying your truth - it must always be out, not inside us.

Way to go, Suzie, loved this post! And I really loved your cute witch!

Kisses and much love from us.
