The Happy Book

Winter Warmth
Lighting candles for health and happiness at night helps keep me sane

This week for The Happy Book we were supposed to focus on books and literary joy. Until yesterday I had not had a second to stop and look at words at all. I have been so busy that I have put my health in jeopardy so I am not super happy right now. I tried to do dramatic self-care starting yesterday but it was too late. In the afternoon I got a fibro flare in my right knee.

Right now, all that makes me happy is warmth. Whether it is the light of a flickering candle at night or getting into my bed that has been heated by this electric blanket. I also bought thermal socks and pants which are helping.

Winter Warmth

Thankfully I woke up this morning to a much warmer house. We are getting a big storm here in Nova Scotia and it is supposed rain for days and days. The good news? It is much warmer now and I can mostly move my right leg again. It is still achy and sore but I can walk again, that's what counts.

I am happy knowing I am doing what I have to do to stay warm. That is really all I want this winter, to not be cold. Homes here are heated by oil which is unbelievably expensive. I had no idea I would be paying a second mortgage for half the year when I moved here. It explains why houses are so much cheaper on this side of Canada. Heating them is like paying for a second house.

So I can walk again and I am not freezing today. This makes me happy. I will be taking it easy for a while now, resting, making sure my knee heals. Maybe I will make some soup? I'm thinking of butter chicken for dinner and hot chocolate for dessert.

As long as the hearth fires are burning, I am OK.

Once again you've intuitively tuned into the universe, Suzie, as you said on your comment at my blog -- writing about candles, light and warmth on the first day of Diwali, the Festival of Light!

Thanks Debra and isn't it kind of weird? But the best kind of weird!
