Yes, I am shameless when it comes to my birthday. It's the one day a year I really love to toot my own horn but I am going to try and do that more often. Sing my praises instead of my sorrows.
Over the next year I have decided to do a complete makeover. First, for my birthday, my hair. On the left you see the "before" photo. Dark, dramatic, a tad spooky... all things I love but it was getting tired and dragging me down.
On the right, the punk ass me. Trouble maker, lighter but still edgy, embracing my inner foodie rockstar.
It sounds lame, I am sure, but when watching the show Nikita there was a woman who said, "The first step to feeling better is looking better." Yeah, I did not want to believe it. It pissed me off. Then it stuck with me, damn it. Then, I thought, what the hell? Let's give it a shot.
Sure enough, man, I feel lighter with less hair. Seriously, even though my neck is colder, LOL. I do love having short hair but I can't get too short with this freezing climate. This was perfect and I love the layers. I think I may even be successful at styling it myself. I always take a photo right after I leave the hair dresser's so I have a visual on how it is supposed to look. Think I am doing OK.
I do not want to stop with just my hair. I need a spirit makeover, a personality makeover... I am tired of being miserable. I am tired of wishing things were different. It is still all true but I have no more energy for it. I can not embrace the stagnant energy in my life so I will focus on making the small changes that are within my power. So, I begin with my hair.
What next? We'll just have to see!

"Foodie rockstar" - love it! This looks good on you, and I think you're right about how the outer can affect the inner. I pisses me off, too, but it works!
Nikita's right. "Looking good" doesn't mean one's a 5'10" supermodel. There was a TA at my kids' old elementary school who didn't fit that mold at all but always looked like a million bucks -- her hair, her clothes, her makeup were perfectly her. "Looking good" doesn't mean one's vapid or overly obsessed with her appearance. It's part of self-care. Not that I thought you looked bad at all before, but if you do these things such as change your hair, it will help you feel better -- and help Suzie's light shine.
Happy birthday, lovely.
Happy Birthday, Rockstar Suzie! Love the new look and I am with you on wanting to give myself a complete makeover. I, too, love short hair.....mine is real short pixie cut. So easy to care for and style!
Happy birthday and your hair looks fabulous!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY you beautiful bad-ass fellow Aquarian!!
The hair is absolutely gorgeous on you, seriously, what a difference!
I love this post - I could've written it and shall follow in your footsteps of "making myself over". 2010 sucked for me and I'm so bored with waiting for things to get better. I'm gonna start with myself!
Great post Suzie and hope you have a wonderful, glorious happy birthday - you so deserve it!
Your hair looks fab! And don't worry about your neck being exposed -- that's what scarves are for! Bday hugs to you!

Happy B-Day Suzie, you look fabulous! Love the hair, loved it before too, but man this is you! Best wishes for a brighter and happier year ahead, sounds like you're off to an amazing start. Hugs and Birthday wishes.
You are rockin' the new hair cut! Love it, it looks amazing!
Happy Birthday dear Suzie. I hope you have a beautiful wish-filled day.
Thank you all so much, having one of the best birthdays ever and your support means so much.
Happy birthday Suzie, love the new hair and the old but change is fun! Any hairstyle would work on you, your so pretty. Have a great day.
Looks FAB!! Can hardly with to see it in person:)
The outside can fuel the inside...it's a funny kinda magic...I have a high bed now as well, at first I hated it (and my husband's poor cat, a kitten at the time, had to claw her way up). Now I just embrace my princess and the pea, hope you do too.
I remember watching a movie, can't remember which one though, the line was something to the effect of "in order to change on the inside, it is necessary to change on the outside first." My Mum said it was true and I didn't quite get it till adulthood. Enjoy that Foodie Rockstar birthday feeling! There's nothing wrong with wanting to enjoy how you look and you do look mahhhhvelous!
We are all in make over 24-7 but always take a moment and see what you gain and everyday in our life something good is happening even if it small it true blessing.
Coffee is on and have extra big piece of cake on your birthday.
Happy Happy birthday, Suzie!!
Love the hairdo, little exterior changes can make so much difference in how we feel! My daughter & I went for pedicures last week, & I find myself smiling whenever I see my toes!
I just painted my front door purple on suggsmestion.from my friend Gwynne - 10,000 Blessings Feng. Shui - & again, it makes me smile!
This coming 'rabbit year' should be much gentler for most of us - yea!
Its niece's BD today as well - rock on!!
