A good decluttering helps this spotless mind

My crafts room

Where did this all begin? Believe it or not... with hair accessories. Yup, that's right. I have this little basket that holds my hair accessories and every time I put my hand in it to pull one out, I pulled out one I didn't like. After a while, it seemed like I didn't have any I liked and the fishing expedition became a pointless and depressing endeavour.

So on Friday when my back was killing me I put on my iPod, listened to some of my favourite music and sat on this (at the time) empty floor and dumped them all out. I went through each one asking each item if I loved it or felt meh about it. Anything that did not resonate with me ended up in a plastic bag. In the end, that bag had a lot more than my basket but now when I go to retrieve barrettes or hair ties they are ones I love.

You would think I would have stopped there but I couldn't. Despite the horrific pain, I was filled with a feverish obsession to go through every little element in my crafts room and see if I was in love with what I had. If I wasn't, it ended up in a bag for donations. This photo was taken at the beginning of the process. I now have several more bags ready to go to charity.

Lately I have been trying to find evidence of my past life in BC and have not been able to find stuff. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favourite movies and I had this eerie sensation I was in the movie, my past disappearing all around me leaving me here alone on the east coast. I could not take it anymore! How odd. The last few years evidence of my life in BC hurt me to my core, my homesickness threatening my sanity but today, I am craving it. Like if I do not go looking for it now, I will lose it forever.

It was my hope that by going through every little package of beads, every book I have ever owned, I would find evidence of my past life. Stay tuned to find out what happened!

Oh good! I hate to be a tease but...

Dora, I so know what you mean, it can feel endless and futile but don't give up!

What an excellent starting point. I´ll take the "love or meh" test with my own stuff. Thanks for the inspiration. :)
