Thank god for Starbucks! My surprising oasis...

Weirdest sky!

It was a weird day yesterday. In order for you to see the details I could in the clouds, I fiddled with the levels so it was not as dark as this but it was as weird-looking. I had to take a bus to meet up with a doctor who I basically interviewed to replace the one I had that left the country. Ever time I have to take the bus, the weather is always crap. But then, the weather always seems to be crap, especially this year.

A Starbucks!

Because the buses only run once a half hour I had time to kill and was shocked when I saw there was a Starbucks nearby! I used to loathe Starbucks because they poisoned me with their strong coffee once, instead of giving me decaf coffee. Yet, I am so sick of Tim Hortons and their trashy customers who fill my neighbourhood with cups and filth that this felt like an oasis in a dark, dark desert.

A cafe! A real cafe!

It felt so civilized and something I have missed. There are so few cafes anywhere in the city or in the outlying areas. All you get here are double doubles and donuts. Even Perks downtown is now a Tim Hortons. This almost brought me to tears. I loved that cafe!

Hot Chocolate

All I got was a hot chocolate with a shot of hazelnut. It was beautiful. As I sat in the comfy leather chair, I almost felt normal. This is something I used to do, a lot. I've missed it. I am more a BC Blenz woman but I will take this, thank you very much. I took out my foodie magazines and read for a while, almost happy.

Me walking home

The wind on the walk home was just as brutal as the way to the doctor's. By the time I got home, I was absolutely exhausted. It appears as though everything here is a fight, a struggle. I never thought I would say this. Thank god for Starbucks!

I'm not a fan of Starbucks coffee either (way too strong for me) but having a hot chocolate is a brilliant way around that! I hope you can visit your new-found oasis more often.

Suzie, I love your pic of the clouds... I had noticed them yesterday here in Timberlea as well... we were stopped in road construction (in front of an icky Tim Hortons, freaky) and I was just watching them zoom by.

Thanks for the pics and the post! I'm absolutely salivating now... I LOVE Starbucks but unfortunately we don't have it in South Africa. Every time we visit Canada it's the first place I head for! Oh, and I agree with you about Tim Hortons, I went there once before I knew any better ;-)

Sometimes you just gotta spend too much money on a coffee. There are some wonderful cafes here in Victoria B.C., including one in my neighbourhood that has become a sort of community living room. I take the kids there a couple times a week!

Cafe culture is a really good thing for the soul. That sounds like something you need right now so you go ahead and take as much as you need!

Debra, exactly! That way they can't poison me, knock on wood! Heather, weren't those clouds crazy yesterday? Glad I am not the only one who noticed. Freaky!!! Gee Gee, such a shame you don't have Starbucks in South Africa for you. It is expensive Amy! Over $4 for a hot chocolate, crazy. Yes, I miss the cafes of Victoria! Sigh... You're absolutely right. Cafe culture is good for the soul and helped me yesterday so much!

Hello Suzie, i love freaky weather as much as cooking and the clouds you witness are called asperatus clouds, very rare and spectacular! I left you a link on you tube so you can see for yourself if you fell like it! Glad you found your oasis in the city, if you ever come to montreal a great spot is the indigo bookstore...you get a cup of coffee and the chance to look at all the new cookbooks out while sipping. Take you care of you and have a great day! Jolyane
