My Electronic Scrapbook: Getting Settled in Westwood Plateau, Summer of 2002

Scrapbook: August 2002 Westwood Plateau, Coquitlam, BC

At this point back in BC in 2002 we were finally getting kind of settled. Our apartment was in the basement of a beautiful house in Westwood Plateau, a suburb on top of a mountain in Coquitlam. It was pretty open concept.

You open the front door and on the right was my beautiful white kitchen. Even though we were kind of a basement apartment, we still got lots of sunlight. I loved making food here while Reg worked from home.

On the left you had our family room where Reg is watching Deep Space Nine during his lunch break.

If you continue forward into the apartment you have our bedroom which was packed, absolutely packed with stuff. Unfortunately our bed was along a wall with pipes so every time our landlords even brushed their teeth, the noise of water would cascade into the room and wake me up. This ruined my sleep for three and a half years. I started wearing construction ear protectors in the morning just as a means of trying to block out the noise.

I was a tad into arts and crafts back then. This was my creative space where I worked on all sorts of projects. I would have done anything for my own crafts room back then and today I have one and rarely go in it. So weird how things change.

We had a den too but for some reason, I didn't photograph it! How odd...

I was still exploring all the paths around the neighbourhood. Here is one going along the base of Ridge Park and you can see our neighbourhood underneath my feet.

I don't think we ever got used to living over 1400 feet above sea level. We never took this for granted. Below you can see Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam in the distance.

Note, no garbage.

There were paths along the golf course which I often left by accident and would get escorted off by security a few times which made me laugh. Yeah, me and authority have never been close.

The giant trees and tree trunks were a constant source of fascination for me. This one reminded me of an elephant. Living here stirred my creative and spiritual side so much. Eye candy was everywhere and yes, we barely fit into our apartment but seriously, where we lived was so beautiful! We felt like millionaires.

I've never been to Coquitlam but it looks beautiful. Is there any place in BC that is NOT beautiful? I doubt it.

AMAZING photos Suzie, especially the one with the wooden fence (note no garbage). Love it. *sigh*

Debra, Coquitlam is very special. We think of retiring there all the time. You're right, I doubt there is any place in BC that isn't beautiful.

Angie, thank you! So glad you enjoyed the photos and yes, I had to note how pristine everything is. Even in the wild woods, no garbage. Love it too. Sighing as well...

Suzie, did you have a kitchen table or not? I remember Reg said you looked so cute with all your gear on :) The bears and the coyotes going through your backyard was a bit much! Didn't I reassure you in that place about pulling out the putting back in the stove elements? I remember the den with all of Reg's Magician stuff...we used to kid about you being married to the ultimate mountain man, too. We were amazed with stories about tracking and wild animals :)

No kitchen table, no room! I can't wait to share those animal stories Cathy, we had quite the wild life there. Every time I clean the elements in the stove I think of your bravery, LOL. Reg definitely is the ultimate mountain man!

WOW that looks gorgeous!!!!! I love the view.

"Yeah, me and authority have never been close." Hahahahaha the image of you being "escorted" off by the police is too funny!!!

I think that would be a good place to retire too... just in an apartment without the creepy pipes.
